Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • Author Undertaking,
    IRB or ERB Cetificate. Please see Author Guidelines,
    Author names and sequence.
  • Title,
    Abstract <250 words,
    Main article,
    Copy of article with names of authors, affiliations and place removed, Remove name from the file properties for blinding the article,
    Figures as separate file,
    Tables within the main article.
  • Acknowledgement mentioned ,
    Conflict of Interest Declared,
    References should be in Vancouver style and first 6 authors shown.

Author Guidelines

Quarterly Pakistan Journal of Kidney Diseases  (PJKD) conforms to the ICMJE Recommendations revised in 2016.

We publish materials of interest to the practitioners and scientists in the field of Nephrology, Dialysis, Hypertension and Kidney Transplantation. The manuscripts should be able to help the practitioners and scientists to their knowledge in regards to clinical practice, medical education, research and health care reforms.

Submission Fees:There are no submission fees currently.

General Guidelines:All articles to be submitted in MS word, images can be submitted as jpeg or pdf format.

Ethical Approval:

Ethical approval of research should accompany the submission document except for letters to the editor, review articles, and special communications in the form of a review. In institutions where Institutional review board is not functional then a letter from the institutions or unit head declaring that the study has been conducted with no ethical issues according to the Code of Ethics of the World Medical Association (Declaration of Helsinki) for experiments:humans  http://www.wma.net/en/30publications/10policies/b3/index.html; EU Directive 2010/63/EU for animal experiments  http://ec.europa.eu/environment/chemicals/lab_animals/legislation_en.htm

Registration of Clinical Trial:

To ensure the integrity of the reporting of patient-centered trials, authors are encouraged (not mandatory) to register prospective clinical trials (phase II to IV trials) in publicly available repositories. For example www.clinicaltrials.gov or any of the primary registries that participate in the WHO International Clinical Trials Registry Platform.

The trial registration number (TRN) and date of registration should be included as the last line of the manuscript abstract.

Ensure that you have the following information in hand while filling out the form:

  1. Details of the contributions made by each author
  2. List of disclaimers if required
  3. List of possible conflict of interests for disclosure
  4. List of possible sources of funding.
  5. Details regarding all authors including:
    1. Full names of all authors
    2. Email addresses of all authors
    3. Phone numbers of all authors
    4. Full current affiliation of all authors
    5. Year of study if any of the authors are undergraduate students

All authors must read the copyright statement and the undertaking detailed on the form before signing it. PJKD assumes that all authors comply with the editorial policy on receipt of the signed submission form.

Manuscript Order

        Title Page should include:

       1.Title should be of 150 character limit including spaces.

  1. Running title (no more than 35 characters including spaces)
  2. Authors (first name, middle initial and last names) and affiliations (including division and/or department),
  3. Abstract
  4. Corresponding author’s name, address, and e-mail information
  5. Key words.

Abstract. Total word count <250.

The abstract should consist of four paragraphs labeled as follows:

  • Background and objectives
  • Materials & Methods
  • Results
  • Conclusions

Abstracts other than the original article will be submitted as paragraphs without heading total word count of 100-150.

Introduction:

It should include the background knowledge of the research citing regional and global citations. Include the objective of the study, explaining the research question for undertaking the study without giving any conclusions of the study. total word count of upto 150 (case report 100).

 Follow these guidelines for the presentation of data within the text, tables, and figures:

  1. All descriptive data for patients should be presented to the decimal place.
  2. For parameter estimates (e.g., relative risks, hazard ratios, P values), use 95% confidence intervals whenever possible rather than P values.
  3. Provide the actual P values.
  4. P values should have only two significant decimal places, however, lower values (e.g., 0.002) are acceptable. Values smaller than 0.001 should be listed as such.
  5. Pictures, illustrations should be submitted in JPEG format & manuscript in Microsoft word format.
  6. Figures & Tables: 4 each are allowed for original article or review. 

Discussion.

It should include discussion of results in comparison to the local and international literature and any hypothesis generated in the research work.  limitations and major findings of the study should be discussed as appropriate.

Disclosures.

PJKD requires authors to divulge any relationships with pharmaceutical firms or other entities (e.g., employment contracts, consultancy, advisory boards, speaker bureaus etc) that could be perceived to represent a financial conflict of interest. It is the responsibility of the corresponding author to collect disclosures from every coauthor and report all conflicts to PJKD. Financial conflict of interest statements should be added to the manuscript after the conclusion section and within the submission site. If the authors have no conflicts, please state, “Disclosures: None”.

References.

List first six authors for each article cited followed by et.al. Journal names should be abbreviated according to the BIOSIS list of serials.

Vancouver style is essential for publication in PJKD. References should be cited in consecutive numerical order as first mentioned in the text and designated by the reference number in superscriptat the end of the sentence. References appearing in a table or figure should be numbered sequentially with those in text.
Acknowledgement, Conflict of interest and Funding Disclosure:
All contributors who helped in the study, may be listed in the acknowledgement section.

Disclose if the abstract has been presented or published in a conference, or published in an abstract book or any other relevant information. If the article is part of a PhD thesis, it should be disclosed.
If there are no conflict of interests, authors should still include this heading and write “none to declare.”
Figures:

Should be sent as a separate file in MS word, JPG etc with minimum dpi of 300. All figures should have a legend.

Review Process:

All articles are subject to double blind peer review and once completed will  be published as per the schedule.

Editorial

An invited commentary on an article being published in the current issue. 

Review Article

In depth review of a subject or a special topic that covers all aspects of the topic from basics to advance level.  It also gives a comparative and hypothesis genrating discussion on the subject.  Upto 5000 words and 25 references.

Obituary: In Memorium

Any distinguish Nephrologist, Health care worker or member of society, who has been involved in suporting nephrology community both health care workers and patinets to reach a common goal of quality care for our kidney disease patients.

Opinion

The articles issued will have opinion of the authors on policy matters and general opinions on matters related to Nephrology and transplantation. The opinions will be the sole responsibility of the the authors and PJKD does not hold itself responsible about any comments. Neverthless, the articles will be peer reviewed preferably by the editorial board and experts in policy matters before publication. 

Special Communication

This will be submitted by an expert in the field of Nephrology both as a researcher, academician, opinion maker, influencer or office holder of the Pakistan Society of Nephrology or anyone the Editoria team deem appropriate to author a special communication. This may be invited submission or author initiated.

Original Article

Original research work submitted that has not been published as such.  If presented as an abstract then should be mentioned in the acknowledgement section. 

Manuscript organized into Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, and Discussion. A structured abstract with sections: (Background, Objectives, Methods, Results, Conclusions & Key words) of up to 250 words is required. Word length 4,000 max.; up to 25 references.

 

Case report

Must be original and carry an important message. Word length 1,500 words; up to 10 references.

 

Nephrology in Pictures

Any one can submit the pictures related to the events happening in the nephrology units, including, seminars, webinars, workshops, training sessions, walks, sports events etc. that highlight the field of nephrology and the issues related tot he care and education of the patients. It will be the discretion of the editorial board to choose and edit according to the journal policy and technical publishing issues.  The authors will be asked to agree before the images will be published.

Pediatric Nephrology

This section managed by the pediatricians and includes review articles, original articles, case reports, guide lines etc.

Renal Pathology

Each Issue to contain pictorial rview of the histopathology slides with brief description and discussion

Image in Nephrology

Original image never published before and clearly describes the disease entity or state.  single page laong with breif description and a single reference.

Residents Corner

This section willl include submissions for residents in training including, MCQ, Points to Ponder, Highlights, commnetaries, Acid Base quiz, Image quiz, small reviews by the residents or nephrologists. words upto 3000.

Kidney Transplantation

This section will include review articles  case reports, commentaries or guidelines etc related to kidney transplantation.  Word count upto 5000 words.

Peritoneal Dialysis

This section will include articles relating to the practice of peritoneal Dialysis.  Word limit upto 5000.

Hemodialysis

This section will include articles relating to the practice of hemodialsysis.  Word count upto 5000 and refernce limit upto 25.
